The photo
below shows the Giardino's restaurant shortly before closing time at night.
Everything - except of course from fresh food stuffs - is prepared for the
"early birds" looking for breakfast at 7 o'clock.

The large
front counter of the bar doubles as Breakfast
Buffet.
But that's not all:
a variety of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals and numerous kinds of bread fill
up two more buffets, which are not visible in the photo.
For a
little excursion into the Giardino's history and for those who haven't been
back for another visit in a long time:
Here comes a photo from 2003. This is how our bar used to look for the first
10 years of the Giardino's existence ...
we too can hardly believe the difference! We will always remain most
grateful to our customers for their trust, faith and loyalty that allows us
to keep growing and improving!

Guest Feedback to Sam's Giardino Visit the News Archive to catch up on developments at Sam's Giardino
Comment by Sam, Dec. 2009:
During the two-and-a-half months following April 2009, Namibia
started feeling the full impact of the economic crises in our main
tourist source markets. While we had remained nearly unaffected in
2008, except from local price hikes in consumer goods, dwindling
visitor numbers during the first months of 2009 indicated that a
quick turn-around would be impossible.
Lesser travellers especially from the United Kingdom, - who are
normally our most active writers of feedback -, meant that we
received only sporadic comments, until the beginning of Namibia's
classic tourist high season.
For us at the Giardino, the high season period July to November 2009
fortunately brought a recovery from the slow-down in business and we
remained one of the lucky few accommodation establishments in
Namibia that was able to report a satisfactory overall result for
2009.

"As we had read a
couple of mixed reviews prior to our departure Sam's was one
accommodation which we had concerns about.
We should not have worried. Sam's was a real home from home and in
the short time we were there (2 nights) were made to feel extremely
welcome - we were sad to leave!
Sam goes out
of his way to make you feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble
for him to organise - restaurants, taxi's, confirmation of
activities etc
It was great to join Sam both before and after dinner for a glass of
wine - tapping into his excellent knowledge of the subject.
As for Sam's 'best friend' - his dog Ornella, if only she was small
enough to smuggle into our luggage!
We could not recommend this place highly enough and for a couple who
love to travel we have seen the good and bad of a lot of places!
Breakfast was excellent by the way."

"Sam is a
wonderful host. He is helpful, entertaining and informative .
The accommodation is very comfortable but when we were there it
was cold so people need to be aware they may need warm clothing.
The food served here is excellent and if you are the only
residents eating that evening Sam keeps the conversation
flowing. He is also very knowledgeable about wine.
He appears to treat his staff very well and that ensures their
loyalty."

Langfristige
Reiseplanungen...
From: J.
Zosso, Switzerland

Hallo
Eine wirklich gelungene Homepage. Gratuliere!

By the way ...
Sam's Giardino did substantially reduce its carbon-footprint but
still makes occasional appearances in top-quality print
publications such as the Travel News Namibia. This very
interesting and locally produced magazine is published monthly
in English and several times per year in other languages.
TNN editions are available free of charge through the regional &
foreign offices of the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and at all
major tourism shows world-wide.

For
TNN's 2009 publications, we opted for alternating between two
rather small advertisements whose simplistic design will
hopefully prove an eye-catcher ... have a look whether you can
find them and let us know what you think!
Our
A5-sized advertisement first appeared in
the 2009 edition of the "Travel Companion" and because we liked
it so much, it will also be published in the NTB's official
accommodation guide "Welcome To Namibia 2010".
Our new
flyer, greatly reduced in size and copies printed
(in exchange for
an extended Internet presence),
is very handy and looks like this:

"Sam's Giardino is a bit of
Switzerland in Swakopmund, which is a very German town. Sam is
very helpful, showing us where to find all the places we wanted
to go. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the food is very
good."

Expert Africa Feedback Mr
Andy Nelson & Partner from the UK visited Sam's Giardino in Sep 2008 "We
thought Sam a little stand-offish when we first arrived, but
think he must have been pre-occupied. He was an excellent host,
being very informative and helpful. He introduced us to some
excellent South African wines and told us about how he trains
his staff.
We had dinner at Sam's the first night we arrived and the food
was good. The breakfast was the best we had in Namibia - there
was such a variety of things available.
Sam provides free internet access and tea/coffee with a wide
selection of different tea bags. There are also lots of books
(belonging to Einstein, his dog), that are available for
browsing.
Sam's is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Swakopmund -
we walked and found it safe.
Overall, we found Sam's a very homely and friendly place to
stay."

Martin Lovering & Partner from the UK visited Sam's Giardino in Sep 2008 "A
convenient place to stay but we feel that the owner did not
create a very relaxing atmosphere.
Although promised that the dog would not be in the public rooms
when we were there (because of allergies) we had to persuade the
owner to keep the dog out of the rooms."
