"Puuhhh, is
this job exhausting! I'm not even in Namibia yet but everyone is already
following me with a camera. Am I really
THAT cute???
Wait until I'm not 3 weeks but 3 months old, full of explorer spirit, and
calling the big garden of the Giardino my home ... THEN you'll see me in
full action." |

Guest Feedback to Sam's Giardino Visit the
News Archive to catch up on developments at Sam's Giardino
We regularly receive greetings, comments, feedback and sometimes even entire holiday stories and photo books from customers who stayed at the Giardino. There are too many to publish all of them but a BIG THANK YOU goes to each and everyone of our guests - for staying with us and for keeping in touch whether in person or in writing. Please rest assured that your messages are heard and taken to heart, including your constructive criticism.
In case you wonder why there
are no outright negative evaluations ... because we never got any! Those
isolated ones found in other web publications are from people who either
had a "double agenda" or seemed to have chosen the wrong travel
destination with Namibia altogether but were unable to admit as much.
Should we ever come across Giardino visitors who are genuinely unhappy
with what we've got to offer and can deal with it in a reasonable
manner, they can rest assured that we will spare no effort to find
solutions acceptable to them.
Here are some of the most interesting stories and most valuable comments in either English or German - in order of arrival, with the latest on top:

Sehr geehrter Herr Egger,

May 2010
"We
stayed here for 3 nights. Nothing was too much trouble for Sam.
He was happy to share any information we needed and was a
wonderful host. We did do the 5 course meal 2 nights running;
but by the third night decided it really was too much for us!
Sam kindly did us some very fancy toasted sandwiches instead.
From here we did the Sandwich Harbour trip with Wayne; which was
fantastic. The lunch in the desert was brilliant and driving up
the dunes was a real adrenaline thrill! We also saw much
wildlife including a 'fly-over of pelicans which was fantastic.
We also did the kayaking trip with the seals which was good;
even for my non-swimming husband and Jean was especially helpful
when we kept losing control of our Kayak- thank you Jean! We
ventured into Swakopmund a couple of times- once to the Kristall
Gallerie which was lovely for buying pressies and another for a
Sunday afternoon stroll. I recommend Sam's for pampering!"

Hallo Sam!

Mr Steven
Bach, a single traveller from the UK visited Sam's Giardino in
Jan. 2010
"Here is
the perfect respite from the brutal desert. Sam's place is cool,
green, clean and comfortable.
In addition to Sam, an engaging Swiss gentleman, there is an
exuberant and entertaining PR manager named Beethoven, a
three-month-old Bernese mountain dog pup. Beethoven succeeds
celebrated previous PR managers, Einstein and Ornella, who are
sadly no longer with us.
Dine-in here. The five-course dinners are excellent as is, so
I'm told, Sam's wine cellar."
On his
Sandwich Harbour excursion, Mr Bach commented:
"This is a fascinating guided trip to an otherwise inaccessible
area. Our guide, Wayne, was highly knowledgeable about the
area's history, geology and its highly adapted flora and fauna.
There is great beauty here: spectacular dune-top views of
breakers meeting sand cliffs, countless flamingos gathered in
shallow water. Wild and splendid!"

Our
Stay At Sam's Giardino
From:
DAVID WILLIAMS
Sent: 21 October 2009 11:08 AM
Good Morning, Samuel,
When we stayed with you last
week I promised to send some comments on our stay. Here goes...
We thoroughly enjoyed our
stay. Sam and all the staff made us feel very much at home and
welcome, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for Sam
whether it was recommending and booking a meal at a local
restaurant or annotating a local map with information about
shops and places to visit in Swakopmund. I was struck by Sam's
close attention to detail, whether it was in the design of the
very comfortable rooms, or in the service to his clients. The
breakfasts are excellent and I can recommend dining-in. The food
and ambience are excellent and Sam was kind enough to arrange a
special course of locally grown asparagus in a champagne sauce
for my wife who is allergic to seafood. Thank you for making our
stay in Swakop so special - a highlight in a memorable holiday
in Namibia. We hope to return again next year.
Best regards
David S. Williams

"Sam is perhaps a little
quirky/eccentric, but he couldn't have been a more helpful host.
From information, confirming activities and booking restaurants
- nothing was too much trouble for him. He also helped arrange
for our cracked windscreen to be repaired so that we could
continue on our trip without delay. We also had dinner at Sam's
one evening, which was very nice and good value with a very nice
bottle of wine chosen for us by Sam.
We also ate at the Tug one evening
and can highly recommend the Crayfish."

A Word In
Between, from Sam...
In
early September 2009, our canine team member, Ornella, was
diagnosed with a very aggressive type of lymph cancer and died
within two weeks, not even four years old. We were completely
unprepared for this to happen and as much as we tried not to let
it affect our guests, some of the emotional upheaval we went
through did show ... we are only human after all and love our
four-legged companions.
We'd like to thank all guests and friends who shared our sorrow
for their compassion and understanding. We also hope that those
who didn't feel as close to the "Giardino Family" in those
difficult times, will still have pleasant memories of their stay
with us.
Although
it is a tough price to pay that dogs don't live as long as
humans, what would our lives be without them?!
So it is
with equally great joy that we share with you today the news
that, after a long search for a successor, another Bernese
Mountain Dog will join the Giardino Team in January 2010.
Knowing that many of our previous guests still follow closely
what is going on at the Giardino, especially in the "Bernese
Department" ... the first photos of our baby-boy can be found
scattered around this website. There is also a new page
nicknamed "Sandmännchen", where we documented the first few
weeks of his life - still with the breeder in Germany.

"Sam's is a terrific guest house offering super accommodation
and food to die for. His knowledge of wine is incredible and he
is most professional in the way that he runs the establishment.
My wife left her reading glasses there and he sent them on to
the airport for her to collect! on our journey home!"

friendly welcome by Sam and his staff. The rooms were nice. Wine
tasting for amateurs like us was a pleasant experience. Good
food and the most complete breakfast during our month in
