Christmas in Namibia
It's summer in the southern hemisphere,
and while most of our previous visitors think about
turning up their heaters by a notch or two, the cold
Atlantic Ocean waters look like an attractive option for
cooling off to us.
The Festive Season coincides with the
main school holidays in Namibia and in our neighbouring
countries, and so Swakopmund is really busy with local
and South African visitors. Instead of huddling with a
piping hot glass of Glühwein around a burning
fireplace by candle light, it's ice cream, beach
parties, gardens in full bloom, and lots of fun
activities for us.
The traditional Christmas Tree still got it's place, all
right, the kids here are also anxiously awaiting their
presents, and the holidays are about spending quality
time with family and friends as well. However, the mood
is very different when the sun shines all day and
everyone is in their shorts and T-Shirts.
One of the best Christmas gifts for
Namibia are the rather early and very good rainfalls we
already enjoyed this summer. Not yet enough to dispel
concerns of low water reserves for the dry season 2009
but the skies look promising to provide us with more
rain during the coming few months. Great news indeed!
We wish you all a prosperous year 2009
and hope to see you again soon!
