From
Swakopmund with love ...
... and apologies for our long silence.
Is it really May again already?
As usual during somewhat quieter times on the business
side, we kept ourselves busy with realising improvement
plans. Where these involve building, delays are almost
guaranteed especially when it comes to somewhat unusual
projects like our new custom-designed gazebo
in the garden. Unfortunately, it will only be completed
during June 2009 and therefore the first photos will
only appear in the next newsletter. In the meanwhile,
check the photo in the left-hand column ... how's that
for an unusually looking new fountain?
(... still at the sales
depot but ours!)
Our first Giardino e-News
went out in May 2009 by email. In case you did not
receive it, you may
read
the newsletter on this website.
You are also most welcome to
subscribe to our mailing list!
Aren't our staff team members
looking gorgeous in their new chef uniforms? More new
staff photos can be found on the "Meet
the Team" page!

Ornella
had a visitor...
... from Windhoek in February this year and proudly
took her four-pawed male friend, Speedy, on an inspection tour
around the Giardino grounds. We were hoping that his flirting
attempts would also entice Ornella to enjoy some rough-and-tumble
play times for a change but ... no chance! So the two of them
eventually agreed to going separate ways for the remainder of the
days that Speedy's 'mom & dad' stayed with us.

Things
we forgot to show you earlier...
... the new
art works on display in the Enoteca Restaurant
at Sam's Giardino!
These are all original paintings imported from Thailand
and their themes are most befitting:
The mouth-watering 'Cappucino & Espresso' cups depicted
in the two paintings in the photo on the right, highlight the Bistro
section that our guests prefer using during day times.
This
big, wall-filling painting of lush greenery with its
fascinating light effects (photo left) makes a bold
statement. We thought it would bring a bit of
"garden-feeling" inside and nicely complement our colour
scheme.
The photo above also shows a small yet important
improvement made in 2008:
Emergency lighting was installed
throughout the Giardino, which will switch on
automatically when municipal power supplies fail -
see lamp near ceiling, in the top centre of the photo.
Each guest room has got one of these battery-operated
lamps too. Luckily though they were never really needed
thus far, as the threats of occasional temporary power
cuts due to so-called 'load shedding' did not
materialise for Namibia ... unlike in most of
South Africa. We actually sold the back-up generator
again that we had planned to install but found far too
noisy.
