Merry
Christmas & A Prosperous new Year
Many visitors flocked to our coast for
some respite from either a freezing cold Europe or a hot
& dry Namibian interior, which means that the Giardino
will be very busy over the holidays too. We look forward
to spending a quiet Christmas with our guests and to the
arrival of our Bernese Mountain Dog puppy from Germany,
in early 2010.
We promise that many new photos of this year's
improvements around our guesthouse will become available
by the end of January, and of course our first own ones
of the new four-legged team member.
Until we chat again, take care and
be safe wherever your travels may take you!
With love from Swakopmund, Sam & the Giardino team

Some thoughts
on 2010...
Only another 6 months to go and the Soccer World Cup
will be upon South Africa. What can Namibia expect from the tens of
thousands of foreign visitors and members of foreign soccer teams
descending on our neighbouring country?
Not all that much, it seems!
Namibia will not serve as preparation base for foreign national
teams; little is known about the availability of flight seats
to/from Windhoek and rental vehicles, during June/July 2010; the
economies of our main tourist source markets are not back on track
by a long shot; and numerous of Namibia's regular visitors will
simply stay away to escape the soccer hype.
On the other hand, the number of advance bookings received for
months not directly affected by the World Cup does not look too bad,
not for this time of the year anyway. It remains to be seen though
what booking developments the coming 3-4 months will have in store.
Cautious optimism appears to be the appropriate approach of 2010 by
the Namibian Tourism Industry - we at least wouldn't embark on a
huge spending spree or expansion drive quite yet, even though we are
content with the results of 2009. |

Some more
improvements done...
Our garden
gazebo was finished in early July this year and for the
time being, furnished with 2 new and very comfy
loungers.
"Gazebo" is actually the wrong expression for this
structure but an appropriate description of its
functions - it's a small house with a roof and open on
three sides. It's positioning in our gardens make it a
very private place for relaxation, reading, and enjoying
sundowners.
Our gardens received
some thorough landscaping and re-planting treatments,
after the gazebo was finished. With the arrival of
summer came some wonderful plant growth and lots of
flowers appeared.
We started
replacing the reed panels on the ceilings of guest rooms
with wood. Occupancy permitting, these upgrade
activities will continue during low season periods in
2010. |
