The people contributing to the success of Sam's Giardino
belong to different African tribes and other ethnic groups
who represent Namibia's cultures and their diversity.

Sam's Giardino is an equal opportunity employer,  committed to ensuring professional and personal advancement of its staff. This includes educating our employees in everything there is to know about the different work areas in a hotel as much as about guest relations, health and hygiene. Our employment conditions count amongst the most favourable in the hospitality industry and we were already proud supporters of Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBEE) in Namibia long before the definition of Government policies. We also actively support nature conservation and community development efforts through sound practices applied around our hotel and in the management of our human resources. We proudly serve our home country Namibia and our hotel guests from all corners of the world.

Working conditions applicable to the entire staff compliment:

- 5 working days per week

- 8.5 working hours per day (one shift only)

- 4 weeks paid annual leave

- Pension fund membership (introduced in 2001)

- weekly rotation of shift AND work area

(job rotation between laundry, rooms, kitchen and service)

- annual salary increase of +/- 8% (inflation-related)

- qualification bonus adjusted every other year,
based on an annual performance appraisal

- annual company excursion in Namibia

The Giardino Team - Overview

Loide, Tileni and Edla are part of the Giardino team since 1999
Loide, Tileni and Edla
all helped to prepare for the hotel opening in 1999;  they were unskilled but are now holding certificates in Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and First Aid. Loide also obtained a diploma in Hotel Administration.

Lukas and Secilia joint our staff within two and three years after the opening of Sam's Giardino
Lukas and Secilia

joint our team in 2001 and 2002 respectively, Lukas as gardener/handyman and Secilia in guest services;  both successfully passed in-house training courses within a year of their employment date.

Lydia, Josefine, Tilensia and Constancia

came on board between the middle of 2004 and early 2005 as juniors in guest services;Lydia, Josefine, Tilensia (below) as well as Constancia (below left) are the juniors on our team after ongoing in-house training they did well in our annual performance appraisals.

Sybille takes care of reception and personnel matters since 1998 and also stands in

for the boss, ... Sybille manages our office, since the Giardino opening

Sam, who holds a Swiss diploma in hotel management and has got more than 20 years of experiences in his profession.Sam, the "inventor" and owner of the Giardino

Both are German speaking,
Sam also speaks French.

Last but not least ...
our latest team addition,
Ornella, who succeeded
Einstein as four-legged PR Manager and Sam's faithful companion, ...

Einstein considering his next marketing strategy ... ... and - in memoriam - Einstein, who was part of the team from the very beginnings of Sam's Giardino. His special personality made an unforgettable contribution to shaping the characteristics of our guesthouse and website, and ultimately to the success of both.
When Einstein left for the Rainbow Bridge in 2007, we decided to honour all Bernese Mountain Dogs and the exceptional roles most of them play in the lives of their human companions by incorporating his image into our new logo - the one that can now be seen at the top of our web pages, on  all newer advertisements and numerous other publications.

All our staff is fluent in English and other local languages ...
while Ornella speaks the global language "Wuff-Wuff", understands most of Sam's Swiss-German, and
recognises the word "food" in every language.
